  1. Pumpkin Butter

Ever since I bought Pumpkin Butter from Trader Joe’s, I haven’t been able to hold myself back from smearing that deliciously orange spread on everything.

I’m going to hold on to this bit of autumn for as long as possible. Tomorrow I even plan on purchasing some more pumpkin bread mix so that I can make more (more! more!) pumpkin bread. Delicious.

Today I worked at the high school again, helping out a former teacher. I like interacting with the young kids, answering their questions, giving them answers (that I believe to be correct). While I don’t necessarily have a job right now, I like the chances I get to talk in classes.

Next, I’m working on giving a discussion about food. Something along the lines of “Fast Food Nation” + “Food, Inc” + “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”, which are all things I’ve watched/read within the past year and have been greatly inspired by. Who knew how despicable the USDA is, how persuaded the entire industry is by science that messes with nature, how corporate fast food is: seeking to get you fat so you pay more.

Speaking of food, I ate a lunch at the high school today and took a picture of it:

Now I know why I was so fat in high school: THE FOOD. A mysterious maybe-chicken chicken sandwich, cookie, tater tots, and an apple (a plus!). I remember eating the something-bad-and-cheesy burrito, resulting in upset stomachs always, and the spicy chicken sandwich I could only handle with loads of mayo.

    Yeah, those were the days?

Even though I feel like Jamie Oliver’s being an ass for imposing healthy foods into the heart of America, I know that he’s got the right idea. Yes, Jamie, please — make our kids eat better foods!
